What is Cupping Therapy?

Cupping has been used for centuries in both Eastern and Western traditions to ease muscle tension, improve circulation, and restore balance. In Chinese medicine, it works by gently drawing stagnant Qi (energy) and blood to the surface, helping the body release toxins, improve flow, and activate its natural defences.

How it works

We use cups made from glass, plastic or silicone. Gentle suction is created either with a hand pump or with the traditional fire-cupping method. This creates a vacuum that lifts the skin and underlying tissues, stimulating circulation and promoting recovery.

Cups are most commonly applied to the back and glutes, but they may also be placed on other areas depending on your needs.

  • Stationary cupping: cups remain in one position for a set time.

  • Gliding cupping: cups are moved along muscle lines to release tension more deeply.

Is Cupping Painful?

Most people find cupping relaxing and soothing. You might feel a gentle pulling sensation - this is simply the tissue being drawn upward. The level of suction can be adjusted so that you remain comfortable throughout your session.

Temporary marks are common and simply indicate improved circulation in that area. They usually fade within a few days.
